Webcast on open source soft processor for FPGA
It's been a very busy week for me at Lattice, but I wanted to take a moment to tell you about an event you might want to check out on Wednesday.
Wednesday: Free LatticeMico32 Webcast on Open Source, Free Soft Processor
On Wednesday, October 18th, we will be hosting a LatticeMico32 webcast. I was involved in helping to define and launch this 32-bit soft processor that is targeted for FPGAs. Our presenter will be Amr El-Shimi, from the IP marketing group. It’s a free webcast, and you can sign up at the above link. There will be a giveaway of an ispLEVER design software package as well.
If you do get a chance to attend, please let me know what you thought about the webcast. And as I mentioned in my last blog post, I'm still interested in your thoughts on using a soft processor within an FPGA.
please guys!!
Once you have recorded a webcast, I would rather download the audio/video plus the slides from your site than go through that 24on.com madness. 24on.com doesn't work very well for me (specially at work where company policy forbids Internet Explorer).
If you don't want to host large the video files yourself, I am sure site like YouTube or GoogleVideo are happy to host them for you.
On another subject, well not really... I left a detailed comment on your Mico32 article but it hasn't showed up yet. Is it still waiting for moderation or was it lost in cyberspace? Maybe that explains why there are so few comments on these pages...
...and while I am complaining, I just have to mention that me and everyone else at my company are FRUSTRATED about the lack of information about the upcoming FPGAs. We need information about XP2 _today_, in order to plan upcoming designs. Why all this hush hush?
To give you guys an example, we want to start prototyping with XP today, and switch to XP2 when its available. But then we need to figure out how to make the PCB compliable with both FPGAs, and given the zlitch information available today, that task is kind of impossible.

Regarding future products, including XP2 if there is such a thing, Lattice has a simple approach. Once we have parts that we can sample, we make a public announement and make data available so that engineers can start designing the devices in. I know this is different from a lot of the other vendors. However, experience shows this approach is ultimately better for everyone.

Mr. X,
Thanks for the input on posting webcasts. Unfortunately, ON24 does not allow us to post a webcast on YouTube. We have hosted some webcasts using Centra, but have noticed some intermittent quality of service issues. Currently, ON24 is the best platform in our industry for hosting webcasts.
Have you tried using Firefox? Firefox support through ON24 seems to be steadily improving.

look at
http://www.atmel.com/products/AVR32/overview/overview1.asp
AVR32 is an Atmel Intellectual Property (IP)
do you think it can be used with lattice fpga?

I don't believe that AVR32 is available from Atmel as a synthesizable piece of IP. You can buy Atmel chips which include this processor. You would need synthesizable IP to target to an FPGA. The IP would also need to be modified to better target the FPGA fabric (e.g. block RAM sizes).
